What is Jewish Day School? What is Addlestone Hebrew Academy? 

Day schools provide children with Jewish and general education in a nurturing environment that fosters a strong sense of Jewish identity and community. They are private elementary, middle, and high schools supported by Jewish communities. North America has over 700 day schools, reflecting the ideological spectrum of the Jewish experience.

Established in 1956, Addlestone Hebrew Academy is the only Jewish Day School in the Lowcountry. It is known for its innovative and individualized education, family-like warmth, and fostering Jewish values and joy in students. At AHA, students can explore and be part of one of the oldest-running Jewish-American communities in the United States. The beauty and history of Charleston are at each student’s fingertips, and children are integrated into a community that fosters the development of the next generation of Jewish individuals and leaders.

What are the Zucker Family’s contributions to the Charleston community, especially the Charleston Jewish community, and education in general?

The Zucker Family has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to the future and the importance of education. They have made significant contributions not only to the Charleston community but also to the Charleston Jewish community and extended their philanthropy throughout North America and Israel.

This legacy began with Jerry (z”l/obm) and Anita Zucker, whose philanthropic efforts set the foundation for his family’s enduring dedication. Anita Zucker and the entire Zucker family have continued this tradition, actively supporting various community initiatives and Jewish educational programs. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in advancing the mission of Addlestone Hebrew Academy (AHA), reflecting their strong belief in the power of education to shape a better future. In recognition of their unparalleled generosity and dedication, it is our honor to name and dedicate this campus as the Zucker Family Educational Campus, ensuring their legacy will inspire and benefit future generations.

A block of rooms has been reserved in honor of the Zucker Family Tribute Gala at The Courtyard Marriott Charleston Waterfront (35 Lockwood Drive).

When will the actual dedication take place?

The campus dedication is free and open to the entire community. It will occur on Sunday, August 18th, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Addlestone Campus, 1675 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. This event will feature a ribbon cutting and lead into our annual Back to School BBQ.

What is the dress code for the gala?

The attire for the event is formal, and guests have the option to wear a black tie.
