Judaism teaches us that the world was created and is sustained through kindness (chessed).

Tal Ben Shachar, an Israeli and American professor who created a course on Positive Psychology, explained that the word for give in Hebrew is נתנ (natan), a palindrome, because through the act of giving, we are not only helping others but we are transforming ourselves.

To support our children’s growth, development and connection to self and community, we have identified ways our children can do acts of Chessed. This will help our children feel a sense of control, will provide a pathway for them to contribute and will make a difference for others while helping to strengthen their resilience during these uncertain times.

This week we are inviting our students, Tiny Tots through 8th grade to create cards expressing our appreciation to our frontline health care workers, including many Addlestone parents and members of the Jewish community.

Please have your child take a picture of their card and email the card to Morah Ora Davies at ora.davies@addlestone.org no later than Monday, May 11. A copy of your card will be distributed to local hospitals and posted on our social media platforms to bring resilience to both our healthcare heroes and our students.

We look forward to partnering with you and your children on this initiative!
