In an effort to develop well-rounded students who will be productive citizens and lifelong learners, our Middle School focuses on providing students the opportunity to flourish in academics, extracurricular activities, and social skills. The middle school is anchored by the commitment to whole child, thus the culture of our middle school emphasisizes the importance of holistic teaching and learning. Weekly, the entire middle school faculty holds team meetings where they discuss their experiences with each and every student to ensure student’s needs are met. Middle School faculty encourages students to develop and reach their potential.
Our challenging dual curriculum encourages critical and creative thinking while developing strong and confident individuals. High school preparation is evident in all subject areas. Students are not only engaged in each subject area but they also learn the finer points of research, design, writing research papers, and taking semester and annual examinations. Often AHA graduates exempt Spanish 1 upon entering High school. Moreover, students often continue Hebrew instruction after the graduate for additional high school credits.
As members of the South Carolina Independent School Association , students participate in annual state-wide academic competitions such as SCISA's Spelling Bee, Math Meet, Geography Bee, Drama Meet, and the Literary Meet.
In accord with the whole child philosophy, Middle School students participate in a variety of non-academic programs including student government, class trips, student publications, athletic competition, school plays and community service programs.
We nurture, encourage and recognize our students for outstanding scholastic performance, meritorious character, and community service.
Middle School is a critical time in student’s lives. Essentially, middle schoolers stand in the crossroads straddling their time between elementary school and high school. We believe that students are the most successful when these years are not seen spent straddling in an attempt to maintain balance but rather grounded in an environment where they are accepted, supported, challenges and nurtured.
