AHA 5th Grade Student is Runner-Up in State Spelling Bee Back |

Three Addlestone Hebrew Academy students competed in the State-wide SCISA Spelling Bee after becoming finalists in the regional spelling bee hosted by Calhoun Academy in St. Matthews in January. Allan Rosenberg, 7th grade finalist, Elayna Gleaton, 6th grade finalist, and Abby Turner, 5th grade finalist, made the trip to Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree, SC on February 17th to compete with other top spellers from around the State. They all did a great job!
Abby Turner’s fantastic performance earned her 2nd place in the SCISA State Bee in her age group after going for several difficult rounds against a student from Hilton Head. Words selected from the higher level challenge list could not stump them. Abby’s final word was “novillero” and even though she knew the spelling, she accidentally said “a” at the end instead of an “o”. Abby received her runner-up trophy in a ceremony immediately following the competition. The following is a sample of some of the words Abby spelled:
Scruple
Analgesia
Terrapin
Caballero
Facetious
Raconteur
Madeleine
Pneumatic
Philippic
Sassafras
Mesmerize
Novillero
Addlestone Hebrew Academy is very proud of their spellers.
